The Arabic School end of year concert for 2005 was based on the film
The Village Wedding. This Film gives a clear picture of the traditions
and customs relevant to Lebanese weddings, especially prior to the 1950's.
The Village Wedding is a portrayal of simplicity, love and happiness,
which form happy memories of our ancestors. In the old days, when a marriage
was to take place, the groom needed to prove his vigour by carrying a
heavy pestle (Jouron) and the bride to show humbleness and graciousness.
The Groom's family were to show great respect to the Bride's family and
upon the arrival of the Bride to the marital home, they would compete
with each other by chanting words of praise.
